Looking at the Business Development Lifecycle through a New Set of Lenses

Tangible connections are illustrated among the elements of the Business Development lifecycle, PMBOK 6th Edition, the ISO 9001:2015 Standard, and Lean Principles. In helpful ways, PMBOK links the Business Development, Capture Management, Proposal Development, and Knowledge Management arenas with project management.

The Critical Path Method is applied to pivotal milestones in the Business Development process, as is Progressive Elaboration. Each major activity is interpreted through the lens of PMBOK’s framework. Promoted by the ISO 9001:2015 Standard, W. Edwards Deming’s Plan-Do-Check-Act (P-D-C-A) cycle is demonstrated to be relevant to conducting Business Development functions, along with the value creation process associated with Lean Principles. Connecting Business Development staff and practicing Project Management Professionals in operational roles contributes to an organization’s capacity to win business in the Federal and Commercial marketspaces.

Word Clouds and the Executive Summary… or, a Quick and Dirty (and Fun!) Way to Test for Client Focus

Abstract

Any bid manager or proposal writer worth their salt will tell you that client focus is vital for crafting a compelling and persuasive Executive Summary. They will also appreciate the plethora of tools and methods available to test for client focus.

In this webinar, we will explore ways to use the now ubiquitous ‘word cloud’ as a visual method for analyzing the balance of “buyer vs supplier” in the proposal narrative. We will highlight some of the tools available to do this, and outline other tried and tested techniques.

By the end of this webinar, attendees will understand how to take advantage of this approach, recognize its limitations, and gain access to free tools to create their own word clouds.

APMP Webinar – 17 May 2017

Characteristics of Highly Effective Proposal Leaders

Join us on May 17, 2017 from 12 – 1pm PDT

REGISTRATION!

Most of us have been educated on “proper” proposal process and best practices, but few operate in an ideal proposal environment where we have all the resources we need and things always go as planned. As proposal leaders and champions, we all experience challenging situations, such as inadequate team resources and weak commitments, graphics and author content being turned in late, critical milestones slipping to the right…in general, Murphy’s Law being alive and well.

Ours is a profession that requires flexibility and creativity to motivate the team, keep the proposal on-track, and achieve high quality. Attend this webinar to become more aware of your proposal leadership style and skills and start charting a path toward improvement.
